Some thoughts I want to share

When I was in high school I did an internship on a small labor and delivery floor. I absolutely loved it. I loved it so much that somedays I would stay late, on purpose, cause I wanted to, not because I had to. I loved it! I remember that semester walking out to my car to go home from the internship and I said to myself, "I hope when I am in school and things get really hard I remember how much I love this." Nursing school was crazy hard and being a real nurse can be even harder. I get so so so so so tired of patients who come in the hospital and expect a miracle but refuse to do the things they need to do to get better and stay better. I get so so so tired of pts who end up in the hospital because of something they did to themselves. I am also tired of families who hold on to long and keep their family members alive even when the patient has absolutely no quality of life. But, every once in awhile I have a patient that melts my heart and helps me remember why I am a nurse. When you hold a patients hand who can not communicate, while a procedure is done or just because you can tell they need some love, and they grip your hand so tight and won't let go. I like to think that patient won't let go of my hand because they feel love and safety from me. And that makes my job worth it. When I can make a difference for real and not just be a caterer to the crazy people in the world. I do have a purpose and my job is important. I forget that all to often and I am so grateful for the patients that help me remember this.

Sedona and Flagstaff

Last week Liz, Ami, Gabe, and I drove up to Sedona and through Oak Creek Canyon up to Flagstaff for the day. We were hoping there would be more fall leaves but it was still beautiful. Here are a million pictures. :)

We found this written in the dirt.
