Look What I Did!

Last week we had a relief society activity where we learned to decorate cakes. It was a mucho fun time! I learned a lot of cool stuff!

#1 cool trick I learned is to use Viva paper towel to smooth the frosting instead of a wet knife. It sounds crazy but it really does work! Viva paper towel works best because it is the smoothest.

Other stuff I learned:

  • Pillsbury cake mix works the best (less crumbly)
  • Spray pan with Bakers Release or Bakers Joy
  • Fill pan 2/3 full
  • Tap on corner to remove air bubbles
  • Bake at 325 degrees (even though the box says 350)
  • Remove from oven, press down top of cake using hot pad (this will make the top flat so you will not have to cut off the rounded top)
  • Turn onto wire rack. When cool, place in freezer for at least 24 hours.
  • When you are doing a double layer the 1st layer goes flat side down and the 2nd layer goes flat side up.
  • After you do the crumb layer (thin layer of icing) let it dry for about 30 minutes before doing the rest of the frosting.
  • Put a little bit of frosting on the bottom of the cake to keep it from moving.

I realize that this cake is not going to get any awards but it's not bad for my first try!

  1. I hereby award you with one Best Cake Ever Award (http://pmamusic.com/pma/wp-content/uploads/emmyAward.jpg)

Also, I just googled "Rock Climbing Gym Scottsdale AZ" to find that gym. Climbing gyms are great because, 1: Climbing is great exercise. 2: Climbing is 1,000,000 times more fun than regular working out. 3: There is usually a message board in the gym where you can post something like, "Beginner climber, looking for other female climbers to climb on Wed nights" (or whatever). 4: You can bring friends and climb with them. 5: Fun fun fun. 6: Cool cake.
